19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a difficult year, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.
The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.
Now working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is Medvedev's maiden championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt after March of the previous year.
Success also signifies he has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 distinct competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in that event previously this season.
His defensive approach and recurring outbursts on court had prompted commentators to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was concluded.
But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.
Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional title, took control to force a third set.
The opponent saved 4 early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to fifteen to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
